I've Got Sunshine...On a Cloudy Day

Today is my Friday, folks! Yay for three day weekends, am I right! And yay for the hubby's company for being the best in the battalion (said the battalion commander who should know his stuff) and getting their special 3-day weekend this week! Charlie Rock!! Anyway, enough of my shameless hubby-promoting plugs, today I have some Sunshine Award action going on but before I delve into all the questions I have to answer, I just want to do a few shout outs.
First, a big shoutout for my bestie Ashley who turned 22 yesterday! She's been a sister to me in every single way but blood (and maybe by blood too because we're pretty sure our grandparents are third cousins) and I absolutely can't wait to see her again soon. Come visit me soon, Ash!!
And my second shout out is to my grandma because the song 'My Girl' reminds me of her and how it was one of the only songs she'd turn up and dance around the living room with us cousins. Now, every time I hear that song, I wish I could go back home for a visit. I can't wait till hubs and I are on the mainland again.
Ok so now that I took care of all the sappy mushy stuff! It's time for some Sunshine Awards. I was nominated twice this week by two different lovely ladies so I feel very much loved.
Raewyn | Melissa
Raewyn from Be a Warrior Queen is my Post Exchange partner for the month and a great gal who I've enjoyed getting to know through her blog and the emails/letters we've exchanged. (If you haven't checked out the Post Exchange, you really should--it has definitely become my favorite way to meet fellow bloggers). My other Sunshine Award is from the lovely Melissa from A Little's Enough--she's a fellow military SO who JUST got ENGAGED to her soldier boy! Congrats all around! Plus she currently lives in New Hampshire which is where all of my family hales from so that just makes me love her and her blog even more. Pretty much what I'm saying is you need to check these two gal pals of mine out! (Their blogs that is....both of them are taken)

Now for the questions and answers!
Raewyn's Questions

1. What is your favorite way to give back to the world?
I'd like to think that this blog is a really super small way of giving back--just knowing that someone going through a tough time could stumble on something I've written and have their day improved is amazing to me.
2. Have you ever done a random act of kindness? What did you do?
Ok so this sound sort of silly now that I'm saying it, but a couple of times when I worked at that wonderful blue place with the smiley face and the spark, I would randomly pay for something out of a customer's cart. Not anything big really but, I'd like to think, it made their day a little brighter.
3. What is the one positive thing you do every day?
Weeeelll.....I wake up every day and get my butt out of bed which I think deserves a notch on the positive column. Also I resist the urge to tell annoying people how I feel about them--I think this deserves two notches.
4. How do you make your day more positive when it sucks?
I watch an episode of 'Band of Brothers' or the movie 'We Were Soldiers'. Sound like a weird way to make yourself feel upbeat, doesn't it? However when I watch either of those, I remember the sacrifices that others have made so that I can sit on my couch and feel sorry for myself and suddenly the problems I'm dealing with don't seem so horrible.
5. Where do you find serenity?
To be honest I'm not really into the whole serenity thing, but I do believe in having peace about something. With that in mind, I'd say I feel most at peace when I'm surrounded by the beauty of God's creation.
6. What are your plans for Halloween?
Hide in the house with all the lights off, have a 'Halloweentown' marathon, and hope no trick or treaters come to our door. (Random fact about me--trick or treaters freak me out hence the hiding out with the lights off)

7. What are your favorite type of cupcake?
Vanilla? I'm not really a cupcake person--more of a muffin person--my favorite muffin is blueberry streusel.
8. What is your most treasured memory?
When I was little, before I could read so like 4 or 5, my mom would read a chapter or two of a book aloud to me before we went to bed. I'd snuggle under my blankets and nestle into her shoulder and just fall asleep listening to her read. We read a bunch of series like that--the Louis May Alcott books, all of the Little House books, the LM Montogomery books, and the Elsie series. When I got older, we would take turns reading chapters aloud.  I would love to be able to do that with my kiddos one day.
9. When were you the most brave?
Oh gosh, hands down when I went to Georgia to visit Zach while he was in basic. I went on a Greyhound bus from Atlanta to Columbus and back for the day and a half Zach had leave and when I got back to Atlanta, I was stuck at the Greyhound station for four hours waiting for my friend to come pick me up. I had cried the entire bus ride and while I waited, two people asked me for money, two more offered me drugs, and one person got arrested right across the street from where I was sitting. It was definitely a day for the big girl pants!
10. What makes you a warrior queen?
Ok so I probably wouldn't consider myself a warrior queen but I do try to exude courage and grace.
11. What does love mean to you?
This is pretty much my favorite question and I could probably write an entire book telling what love means to me, but to keep it short---Love means putting someone else's needs above yourself, it means accepting them for who they are and forgiving them when they make mistakes. Love is having someone to confide in and having someone confide in you. Most importantly, Love is a choice, a conscious decision everyday to respect, comfort, enjoy, and cherish the one you love.
Melissa's Questions

1. Do you have a nickname? If so, what is it?
Well, Elizabeth in itself is a nickname since my given name is Chantal. My family calls me Chantelly because it rhymes with things and its just generally fun to say. Friends from college called me Tallshawn (which I always hated because I'm in fact-short) and Bella (yes, after the one from Twilight). My hubby calls me Bella so I think I'll go with that one.
2. What is one food that you absolutely could not live without?
There's so many I really can't choose! McDonalds is really high on that list as is butter. Actually I think it would have to be butter because I love it so much.
3. What is your all-time favorite book and why?
Again super duper hard question because I LOVE sooo many books. I'm going to say 'Redeeming Love' by Francine Rivers because it's a gorgeous story about God's love for us. It also makes me laugh and cry which is always a sign of a wonderful book--a close second would be 'Home Front' by Kristin Hannah.

4. If you could only shop for three stores for the rest of your life, what would they be and why?
Oh please save me from this horrible fate! Actually I really only shop at 3 stores right now so I will pick those--the Commissary (because they have the best grocery prices which means I can buy more food for the same amount of money which then means I can cook more and eat more), Target (because where would we be without the beautiful red target sign), and Game Stop (because if my husband didn't have Game Stop he'd be miserable which would then make me miserable).
5. What is one fashion trend you're really glad you outgrew?
Oy! Let's see here--I keep a running list of these--socks with sandals, really long hippy skirts, vests, business suits while in high school, the color brown.
6. Who is your celebrity crush and why?
Hehe I have too many of these too. I'd have to say it would be Robert Downey Jr because he's funny and a little crazy, kind and generous to a fault, and has blue eyes. Also he plays both Sherlock Holmes AND Iron Man--the man is awesome.
7. If you could travel anywhere in the world one someone else's dime, where would you go?
Everywhere!! I'm not kidding! First off I'd stop over to Ireland and mosey over the sea to Great Britain and Scotland. Across the channel I'd go to visit Paris and then I'd be off to the Middle East. Yep, I'd head to the Middle East--I'm THAT person. I'd spend a ton of time in Israel and would probably try to sneak into Iraq and Egypt just cus. Since I'd already be in Africa, I'd swing on over to Sudan and Madagascar and Sierra Leone and finally South Africa. After that, I'd hit Australia and New Zealand for a long long time (I might actually just stay there), but if I did keep going after that, I'd hit up South America on my way back to the good old USA. However, I'd probably actually just make it to Ireland and stay there for the rest of my life.
8. What is one thing that you absolutely must accomplish in life to be happy?
Ya know, I don't think I can pinpoint a specific goal to accomplish for me to be happy--I'm married to my one and only love and have a wonderful life with him so I'm pretty set for right now! I would love for us to start our own little family but it's not a must.
9. What is your biggest fear?
I actually have this phobia of telling my biggest fear to anyone--I'm pretty sure only my husband knows it. But let's just say that it would make an episode of Criminal Minds seem like Dumbo.
10. Do you have any hidden talents we should know about?
I can sing, that's pretty much it.
11. What is the last movie you saw, and what did you think of it?
The Croods--I loved it even though I did cry at one part.
PHEW! Well, there you have it people! Two Sunshine Awards done and finished! I know that I'm supposed to make a list of 11 questions for you and pick 11 bloggers to answer them but I'm opening this nomination up to anybody who is interested and, because I seriously think these gals did a fantastic job of asking thought-provoking and fun questions, please pick 11 questions from the 22 asked and answered right here. Make sure to comment and tell me that you participated so I can check out your answers too!
