Thanksgiving Recap 2013

Well happy Monday loves--I don't know about you but there is never a day less welcome than the one right after a four-day weekend. However, we have to make the best of it right? After all we did get a holiday out of the deal!!

Speaking of the holidays, how was your Thanksgiving y'all?

As you can see, ours was fun and food filled!

This year was my first year ever cooking our own turkey and I was a teensy bit nervous about it. To top it off I couldn't find a recipe that I completely fell in love with so I decided to just wing it. We ended up basting our birdie with a ton of spices, a ton of olive oil, and just a touch of Southern Comfort. Are you waiting with baited breath to know how it turned out? Yummy! The skin was crispy and super flavorful and the turkey ended up moist and delicious. And, of course, we had all the fixings along with the it too--mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberries, and of course pumpkin pie.

Zach and I aren't big Black Friday people but we did make a special trip to Target for all our Christmas decorations. Then of course we had to get dinner and a movie so to the fridge we went for left-over turkey dinner and afterward headed off to the theater for Catching Fire. I absolutely love the Hunger Games trilogy and Jennifer Lawrence is one of my favorite actors ever so seeing this movie was an absolute must. And I loved Catching Fire even more after I saw it--even the hubs, who isn't that big of a HG fan, enjoyed it. Absolutely can't wait for next holiday season when Mockingjay comes out!

Hubs and I went to an early showing so we would have plenty of time to come back home and decorate our Christmas tree. And of course we had to take a ton of pictures of ourselves decorating the tree!

Saturday was GAME DAY! Woop! Woop! University of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (yes that is their name) versus Army Black Knights at the Aloha Stadium (which if you follow football is where the ProBowl is played). We just couldn't pass up seeing the Army team in action (because hello military pride!) so Zach invited one of his buddies to come with us and we moseyed off to our very first college football game. Army ended up losing 42 to 49 but we loved the game nevertheless. And since it was a special military appreciation game, halftime included a promotion ceremony and a tribute to Hawaii's wounded warriors. I almost cried when the entire stadium stood up and sang 'God Bless America'--it was really breathtaking. (I also laughed at the Hawaiian version of the John Denver classic 'Country Roads'--this girl definitely prefers the original version!!!)

And the topping on the holiday cake--Broncos won against the Chiefs!

How was your Thanksgiving? Don't forget to send me your email address if you'd like a Christmas card!!!
