Believe--Creative Collective #1

I am not a crafty person. I though I was, but my forays into craftiness lately have ended in wadded-up paper and gluey/painted fingers. I'm serious, you guys, yesterday I was determined to paint and modge-podge my way into beautiful and inspiring wall art. I had dreams of cardboard cut out letters decorated with pictures of the hubs and I on a beautiful background of letters we'd written each other.

Romantic right? Crafty yes? Well, folks, this is what I ended up with.

Not at all what I was thinking about.....like at all. However, it does serve my purpose of finding a word to focus on for this year--believe.

Now if you're wondering why in the world I was even searching for a word in the first place, let me introduce you to the Creative Collective.  Melyssa from over at the Nectar Collective has this wonderful idea for 23 creative activities for us to do over the course of this year. And since I was under the misconception that I was crafty and creative, I jumped at the chance to use my artistic talent.  Hopefully the next 22 activities will give me a chance to show you all, and myself, that I'm actually a creative person and can indeed craft something without the aid of photoshop.

Anyway though, as you can tell from the word spread across the hubby's and my faces--my goal for this year is to...da, da, dum....believe. Lately I've noticed that I've become somewhat of a worrywart--I worry about everything-the hubs, my family back home, safety, money, marriage, children, the future, the likelihood of a plane flying into the ocean with me on it, everything. My goal is to start letting go of the worry and just believe that everything will work itself out in its own time.  It might sound a little naive and fairy-tale-ish but I think I really need this reminder to relax, look at the blessings I have around me, and just enjoy my life here and now instead of obsessing over what's going to happen tomorrow or three days or a month from now. I want to believe again! And part of that is also believing in my crafting skills which means this weekend I will be hauling my butt and the husband's to the nearest Target where I will then scrounge for supplies to make the lovely wall art I was dreaming of. After all, there can never be too many reminders to believe!

Do you have a word you'd like to focus on this year?
