On March 12 2014, I am going to be celebrating 3 years of marriage. It hasn't been the happiest 3 years - we've had a few bad hands dealt which include the loss of my father, the diagnosis of his father with early onset Alzheimer's and subsequent rapid decline, and our fight with infertility- but we've always been there to support each other and make extra special memories where possible.
For a lot of couples, the first wedding anniversary is (understandably!) a big deal, and we were no different. We decided to treat ourselves and spend 8 days in New York city. We also exchanged gifts to tie in with the tradition of paper for a first anniversary.
I made this artwork for Boy in secret. I had seen similar designs on the internet and loved the idea, so I set myself the challenge of recreating and adapting the design. I picked out 9 places that were important to us as a couple, and printed out maps of those places onto photo paper. I then cut them out in a heart shape and arranged them on a piece of background paper. After adding in a picture of us when we first met and one of us on our wedding day, I stuck it all down and framed it.
Boy gave me this journal, which I love because it will be a lasting memento of our entire marriage (as long as I remember to write in it...!) We'd had the similar honeymoon diary which we had written in faithfully every day we were in Kenya, and I loved being able to share those memories on my blog.
Our second wedding anniversary wasn't quite as extravagant; rather than flying 9 hours to a different continent for 8 days, we stayed quite local and spent two nights in a gorgeous hotel. The weather was also a complete contrast - March 12 2012 in New York was really warm, and we were walking around at 9am in t-shirts. March 12, 2013 in the north of England it snowed, a lot!
Thank you so much Elizabeth for having me!
Thanks so much for that sneak peak, Jenni! Guys, I've loved having this gal as my little these past few months and, after this sneak peak of anniversaries past, I can't wait to read how they spend their third anniversary.
Hop on over to Jenni's blog and tell her hi (and wish her a happy anniversary)!!
How have you celebrated your anniversaries?
