5 Tips for New Bloggers + Canon Rebel Giveaway

When I started blogging, I knew pretty much....well....nothing. I mean, sure, I followed a few blogs but for the most part I was flying through the blogosphere by the seat of my denim shorts. And as a new blogger wanting to put her little blog out there into the community, starting out can be daunting!

I think all of my fellow bloggers will agree that blogging is and always will be a learning experience. None of us have it all down to exact science BUT there are definitely some tips and tricks that can make the journey a little easier. And today I'm sharing the top 5 things I wish I would have known when I first started blogging.

tips and tricks for those just starting out

// Develop a consistent blogging schedule.
I try to post on this little bloggy blog at least 3 times per week...and most of the time I try to shoot for 5 a week. The more new posts you offer to your readers the more likely they are to visit your blog every day. I know it sounds really daunting when you're first starting out but it's not as difficult as it seems. Especially if you take the time to schedule out your blog posts.

// Share things your readers can relate to.
This means that not every post can be an I'm-doing-this-today type of post (and if you're posting 3-5 times a week, I'd hope that wouldn't be the case). If you like crafts or cooking, add a few DIY tutorials or recipes to the mix. Is there something you have quite a bit of knowledge about, share it! There's absolutely nothing wrong with weekend recaps or currently posts, but a good rule of thumb is to write not only about what you do but also a little about who you are.

Also don't go on the opposite end of the spectrum and only post informative posts. There's nothing that makes me scratch my head and click unfollow more than reading post after post and still having absolutely no idea what makes that blogger unique. Find a balance and stick to it.

// Comment and communicate with other bloggers.
Definitely the hardest one for me when I was first starting out. I just hated putting myself out there by clicking that little comment button or even worse the send button. I found the best way to get over that fear was setting a specific goal--5 comments a day was a good starting place for me. Twitter is also a great way to reach out to other bloggers. It's so easy to start conversations there and even most of the huge bloggers will take the time to respond to a shoutout if it's genuine.

And when you get comments on your own blog, it's always really nice to return the favor. Blogging exists through community so get right in there and start building yours!

// Use all the tools available to you.
This means Bloglovin and at least one other social media site people can follow you through. It also means choosing sponsorships on other blogs that give you the most bang for your buck. Oh and read all those posts you've pinned on your Blogging board.

// Include great pictures in your posts.
Cell phones are amazing little devices great for many many things. Buuuuut most of the time the things a phone is great for doesn't really include taking pictures. It can be done but getting a DSLR camera just makes the life of a blogger so much easier! And who knows you might grow to love it and become the designated photographer at all family events.

I know what you're thinking. But those frufru DSLR cameras are so expensive!!! I agree, I definitely agree. Which is why I've joined up with Jana and a few of our bloggy friends to give you the chance to WIN a brand spankin' new Canon Rebel T3i!!!! I know, I know! I'm just as excited as you are so go ahead and scroll down to that Rafflecopter below and enter-enter-enter!
