What I've Learned about Marriage

Because obviously after two years of wedded bliss, I'm totally an expert on all things marriage, right? Haha, I'm totally joking. But I do like to think that I've learned a few things during these seven-hundred and thirty-six days since we said I do (yes I do keep count--no, you can't laugh)

So I thought I'd have a little fun and share some of my nuggets of wisdom to all of my fellow wives out there. Enjoy! And take everything I say with a grain of salt, because in the huge scheme of things, I'm a total newb!!!

// Communication and trust are the cornerstones of a good marriage.

// You know the old adage 'Don't let the sun go down on your anger'? Well sometimes that just doesn't hold true. Especially if the angry people in question get cranky when they're tired. Kiss each other goodnight, go to sleep, and greet the disagreement in question with a well-rested mind.

// Speaking of disagreements, try not to argue in the bedroom--keep it your happy place.

// Always begin and end your day with a kiss from your hubs if possible.

// Never underestimate the healing power of you-know-what. Seriously.

// You can get your husband to like country music if you make him listen to it all the time.

// Find out each other's love language. Then figure out a way to incorporate it into your monthly date night.

// Speaking of, have a monthly date night.

// Remember that there WILL be days your husband annoys the heck out of you for all of these reasons aaaand many more.

// Your husband isn't a mind reader.....he probably isn't the best at remembering things either. So make sure to repeat things....a lot.

// Make it a point to let your husband have at least an hour after work to relax before you give him a honey-do list.

// Imagine how you'd feel if your hubs told all of his buddies you were a horrible cook. Remember that feeling the next time you catch yourself gossiping about something he does. IE--Don't talk hurtfully about your spouse to your friends.

// On the flip side, some times you will need to vent about your hubs to someone. Pick this person wisely!!!! No--sister-in-laws, moms, or other family members are probably not wise choices. A close friend who can listen and then remind you how petty all those little things that annoy you are?--keeper.

// Every once in a while, do something for your hubby that he really loves and you really hate. Like playing video games for a whole weekend. Or spending Saturday afternoon, watching Disney movies (wink, wink)

// Laugh together....a lot.

// Take long walks together and talk about anything that pops into your mind. Nothing is off-limits....not even tampons....or farts.

// Tell him that all the Disney movies you force him to watch is just practice for future children. He'll roll his eyes but secretly he doesn't mind.

// Do little things for your hubby. He might not mention it but he does notice.

// Text your hubby in the middle of the day just to let him know you're thinking of him.

// Don't nag. Patiently remind. #smileyface

// Also--open his TV horizons a little bit. He may think he won't enjoy watching Rizzoli and Isles or Chicago PD but you know differently. And he'll thank you later.

// Oh and last but not least, talk about your hubby all the time on your blog. Hehehe.

And now it's time for me to introduce you to one of my favorite gals here in Blogland--Alex from Munchkins and the Military. Alex is a fellow military wife (duh) and momma to 2-and-a-half little munchkins. Yep, Alex and the fam are expecting little Baby J anytime now! #soexcited I have a ton of her posts bookmarked for when Zach and I start our family.....like this one....and this one. She and her family recently moved to Hawaii and oh-my-gosh are they the best at being tourists around town! Beautiful pictures AND cute little munchkins....oh and she's reopening her Etsy shop in October!

Now, go check Alex out and tell her I sent you!!!!
