Wings over the Pacific Airshow

You know those weekends that are absolutely the best? Like when you were little and you went to the state fair for the first time and ate your weight in cotton candy? That was me this weekend.

Well ok, I didn't eat my weight in cotton candy but Zach and I did spend the day at the Blue Angels airshow. This was the very first air show for both of us (I was actually in Pensacola a few years ago and just missed watching the Blue Angels perform) and it was legen-wait for it-dary.

Warning: This post contains lots and lots of photos of planes. No, seriously we took like 400 photos #jawdrop.

There were quite a few planes and helicopters out on display on the tarmac before the Blue Angels took to the skies. Zach had an absolute ball telling me all about the ones he's had the chance to fly on and it was really cool for me to put an image to all the stories.

And I obviously had to take a picture of him in front of his primary occupational mode of transportation (and incidentally the only plane/helicopter I know the name of)--the chinook.

Ok so that's not a plane but it is a really huge truck-type vehicle that Zach has driven before so I figured it counted to show y'all.

Actually I take back what I said about chinooks being the only name of a plane I remember, this one is the F-22 Raptor.

See that 'smiling' airman to Zach's right? I'm pretty sure he could give the Queen's Guard a run for their money. Although with the number of selfies some tourists were taking with him we really couldn't blame him. Gotta love his and my husband's faces here. To answer your question, no Zach wasn't very enthused that I made him pose for the camera.

Ah my husband--he's so much more comfortable behind the camera then in front of it. Which is good because he took all of the photos you're about to see of the drum roll, please Blue Angels!!

Which was also a good thing because pretty much all I could see before the planes were actually up in the air was....the back of people's heads. No, honestly when Zach and I looked at all our photos later in the day I was just sitting there extremely peeved that he could see everything that was happening without going on tip toe or holding a camera as far as he could above his head. Short people problems, my friends, short people problems.

They played the Top Gun theme song over the loud speakers as the planes taxied down the runaway which I thought added a great Tom Cruise-esque flair.

All in all, the whole day was pretty gosh-darn amazing!
