I'm a huge fan of Disney movies--like on a scale from 1 to 100, I'm at about 210. I remember as a kid picking out our Friday night family movie and more often than not, it was Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Cinderella, or Toy Story. Now I know that there's a ton of drama when it comes to the Disney princesses but I learned so many life lessons from Walt and his animated friends.
1. It's easy to judge others, but when you put yourself in someone else's position, you can learn valuable lessons.
You think the only people who are people are the people who look and think like you. But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger, you'll learn things you never knew you never knew.
-Pocahontas
2. It's all right if you're different from others around you. Being unique is what makes you special!
Look there she goes, that girl is so peculiar; I wonder if she's feeling well. Behind that fair facade, I'm afraid she's rather odd. Very different from the rest of us is Belle.
-Beauty and the Beast
3. Have big dreams. And never be afraid to work hard to succeed.
I remember Daddy told me-fairy tales can come true. You gotta make 'em happen; it all depends on you. So I work real hard each and every day, now things for sure are going my way.
-The Princess and the Frog
4. No matter what, it's always better to be honest.
All right sparky, here's the deal. You wanna court the little lady, you gotta be a straight shooter, do ya got it? Tell her the truth!!
-Aladdin
5. There are somethings in life you just can't change. Learn what you can from the past and then keep going.
The past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it, or learn from it.
-Lion King
6. Problems will always be a part of life but instead of letting them get you down. Just keep swimming.
When life gets you down you know what you gotta do? Just keep swimming, just keep swimming.
-Finding Nemo
7. Sometimes your weaknesses can be your strengths.
Dumbo, the ninth wonder of the univoise. The woild's only flyin' elephant.
-Dumbo
8. When you work as a team and have a good attitude, you can succeed.
When the road looks rough ahead and you're miles and miles from your nice warm bed. You just remember what your old pal said, You've got a friend in me.
9. Choose to remain kind no matter your surroundings.
Sing sweet nightingale, high above me.
-Cinderella
10. Dreams can change and that's ok. Just don't stop chasing them.
Rapunzel, you are my new dream. And you are mine.
-Tangled
HOW ABOUT YOU? WHAT LESSONS DID YOU LEARN FROM YOUR FAVORITE DISNEY MOVIES?
A little bit before Christmas, I was hit with this enormous urge to scrapbook. Which was kind of weird because I honestly haven't enjoyed scrapbooking since my aunt and I did some pages together back in high school. Ok, it's not really that I don't enjoy scrapbooking--I do--but more often than not whenever I'm hit with the "scrapping" bug, I get so caught up with the papers and the embellishments and all the extras that it quickly becomes no longer fun for me.
So anyways, this last time, I decided there had to be an easier way--a sort of middle ground between full-fledged scrapbooking with all the bells and whistles and just inserting photos into a photo album. And that's how I found Project Life.
Pretty much Project Life is a simplified version of scrapbooking that uses premade paper kits plus photo protector pages to document your year. Usually each spread spans about a week's worth of pictures and at the end of the year, you have an album filled with 52 weeks of photos. The thing that drew me to Project Life was the organization of it all--straight lines, the focus on photos and the story of life rather than pretty embellishments.
I'm sooooo excited to start of 2015 with Project Life and I can't wait to see the finished album at the end of the year!
I'm starting off a little bit differently with my album than most people would though--I'm going back to 2012 to document our wedding before starting my weekly layouts for the year. I have soooo many photos from our wedding and, besides the few in frames, they've just been sitting in a photo album in our spare bedroom the past few years. No more of that!
Ok so granted as you can see, I haven't quite gotten to the journaling part yet. I'm still trying to decide whether to print my thoughts out on the cards or just to write on them. I'm not in-love with my handwriting so it's sort of a toss up. Any thoughts?
This one below is my favorite layout I've done so far--probably because I love all the different views captured of us at the ceremony.
I loved being able to go through all the photos and relive the memories from that special day. This next page especially made me smile. The candid of one of Zach's uncles and my father-in-law sharing a high five always makes me laugh (my father-in-law officiated our ceremony and I remember him being almost as nervous as I was!!!).
The photo on the top right of my sister-in-law and I kissing Zach's cheeks Everybody-Loves-Raymond style and the bottom left of me and my sweet nieces and nephews are my absolute favorites on this page. So much family going on on this page--it makes me happy!
I still have a few pages left to complete our wedding layout--a copy of our invitations to add in, at least two full 12x12 photos of my favorite wedding pictures, and a few more journaling bits--but I've really loved how it's turning out so far.
So you might say that as of now, I'm pretty in love with the whole Project Life thing. So in love that this is probably going to be a bi-weekly thing to go over the layouts I've done and talk about them a little. Like I said in my Word of the Year post, I'm really trying to be more intentional with hobbies other than blogging this year and I love that I've added Project Life 2015 to my hobbies!!
HAVE YOU EVER TRIED PROJECT LIFE? ANY TIPS AND TRICKS FOR ME? WHAT DO YOU DO TO DOCUMENT YOUR MEMORIES?
Remember waaaaaay back when I had y'all complete a survey for me (I'm talking like waaaaaay back), one of the things that some of you asked me to blog about was life in Hawaii. Well, all of you who asked, you're in luck because today is the start of a series I'll be doing all about Hawaii called "The Oahu Diaries".
With this series, I'll be covering great places to visit, pros and cons of island living and a lot more. I'm super excited to start things off with ten things to do on Oahu!
*Oh and if you have any Hawaii-related questions for me, ask away in the comment section and I'll be sure to answer them in one of the posts or in an FAQ post at the end of the series!!*
1. Spend a day at the beach in North Shore.
2. Visit Pearl Harbor and explore the USS Arizona.
3. Window-shop all the stores on the Waikiki strip. Hint: There's a Prada.
4. Hike to the top of Diamond Head and enjoy the view.
5. Stop at Halona Blowhole and venture down to the secret cove.
6. Drive around the entire island.
7. Take a hike up to a waterfall. Manao Falls is our favorite so far.
8. Experience a true Hawaiian luau.
9. Hike up Koko Head Crater.
10. Explore the Leeward side of the island.
SO WHAT DO YOU THINK? IF YOU'VE BEEN TO OAHU, WHAT WOULD YOU ADD TO THIS TOP 10 LIST?
